Craft Supervisor

Salary Grade: G05
Minimum  Midpoint  Maximum
$90,316 - $121,926 - $153,536

Personnel in this job title may be covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards.  If the position is covered, prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check.  Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training.  Annual cyber security training is also required. 

Given the financial nature of this position, this position may be required to obtain a credit check depending on location. If the position is covered, prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a credit background check.   

SUMMARY:  

Supervises large functional units or department that performs the functions of construction, operation, maintenance, or warehousing within the production, transmission, and distribution systems. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Provides supervision by ensuring appraisals, discipline, and personnel matters within the department are properly handled and making decisions for the department 

Ensures all company policies are followed 

Sets general work assignments for the department and delegates where appropriate the direction and scheduling of these assignments 

Ensures department has adequately trained personnel 

Formulates goals and objectives for the department, establishes a plan to achieve them, develops a budget corresponding to the plan, and ensures proper management of resources 

Ensures department follows all guidelines related to loss control and provides adequate training and resources to accomplish work safely 

Ensures that the appropriate records are maintained and reports are issued accurately and timely 

Presents reports to other departments as necessary 

Stays current in areas of expertise and solves and assists in solving problems of the department 

Interfaces with the customer as appropriate in the dispatch of assigned responsibilities 

Supports and represents the company in litigation or grievance matters 

Assumes supervisory responsibility for the planning, leading, organizing and controlling of the assigned personnel, consisting of a large number union craftsmen, or first level supervisors, and other non-union personnel 

Must be adept at delegation and have review process in operation to ensure objectives are met 

Responsible for operational and maintenance activities seven days per week, twenty-four hours per day 

Seeks and promotes a cooperative work environment between various department 

COMPETENCIES:  

Demonstrated ability to coordinate and inspect complex and unique construction projects 

Extensive knowledge of construction and maintenance of electric, transmission, and/or plant operations distribution systems 

Extensive knowledge of company policies, procedures and union contracts as they pertain to electric construction and maintenance activities 

Ability to manage large craft projects on time and within budget 

Thorough understanding of department policies and procedures and crafts supervised 

Technical judgment in adapting economic solutions to meet system and company needs 

Ability to apply the principles of supervision as necessary in directing the activities of a large number of union craftsmen, or first line supervisors, and non-union personnel 

Knowledgeable with the budgeting process preparation and interrelationships with other department and company budgets 

Experience in dealing with emergency situations independently 

Detailed knowledge of safety rules and regulations and loss control principles and standards 

Ability to prepare and present reports and interrelate functional unit activities with company strategy 

QUALIFICATIONS                    

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  

Bachelor's degree in a related field with five to seven years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

Must possess a current, legally valid driver¿s license and meet the company¿s driving record requirements. 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: 

Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos 

Ability to write complex correspondence 

Ability to effectively present information in group situations and respond to questions from customers, clients, management, and other employees of the organization 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:                   

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry 

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations 

COMPUTER SKILLS:                   

Working knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and word processing software 

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:  

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and/or walkup to 2/3 of the time.  Good vision, manual dexterity, balance, and the ability to reach with hands and arms required. Ability to talk and listen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  May be on 24-hour call during various periods of time.
