Director, Transmission & Distribution Operations

$131,698 - $184,377 - $237,057

SUMMARY:
Directs the construction, maintenance and operation of the electric system, public relations, and business operations for a defined area in Texas. Ensures that these functions are performed in a manner that optimizes the reliability, safety and integrity of the system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs the maintenance of the transmission and distribution system within area of responsibility to ensure reliability, safety, and integrity of the system
- Directs department activities to align with organization goals and objectives
- Ensures appropriate utilization of processes, resources and systems
- Directs the management of fleet, equipment, and supply chain initiatives and material
- Provides appropriate information, assistance, coordination, and implementation of various functions, including environmental requirements, auto and liability claims, legal matters, vegetation management, franchise agreements, pole attachment agreements, regulatory matters, audit, etc
- Ensures implementation, management, and reinforcement of corporate safety initiatives and principles
- Oversees public relation activities and maintains positive relationships with community leaders, political agencies, and internal and external customers
- Manages and administers capital and operations and maintenance budgets within area of responsibility
- Prepares monthly management reports including budget variance analysis and explanations

- Extensive knowledge of functional business areas incorporated at Transmission and Distribution relating to the deregulated market and transactions

- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment

QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree with seven to nine years of related experience, to include two years of management experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline
- Master's degree is preferred
- Electric utility expereince is preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Must possess a current, legally valid driver's license and meet the company's driving record requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hires, trains, evaluates, rewards, and terminates employees. Ensures the organizational structure possesses the right complement of skills and expertise by location. Designs, organizes, prioritizes, schedules, and leads work assignments. Fosters good working relationships with various groups.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints form customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software
ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
DECISION MAKING:
- Independently approaches decisions involving the definition and scope of projects, research methods used, and how to present information. Ability to recommend changes in systems and procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. Manual dexterity required and the ability to kneel, push and pull. Frequently required to lift/move up to 25 pounds.
